Not unlike the wind, you can never control me. I’ve built my life this way for a reason. If your advice or idea is thoughtful and helpful, hopefully I will be aware enough to acknowledge and realize this — but that is solely up to me.
Advice is an opinion. And sometimes, it’s an uneducated one. They may care for you, or even love you, but they don’t necessarily know you’ve tried what they’re gonna say yesterday to your fullest capabilities. Their advice, while you hoped it would be life-changing, was actually fairly vague and cliche and doesn’t fit into where YOU see your life going.
That is not to say we shouldn’t appreciate advice of all kind. Robert California, the fictional character on The Office said it best (in other words): criticism is important, constructive and not constructive. We need varying opinions to level out our perception.
If we know the road we are taking, consciously or subconsciously, we know what we need to do. We just have to find out how to implement change in small steps.
Stay strong and take care.
